It was nice, but nowhere near Best-Picture worthy. It addresses the racial problems of the time (late 1950s) and the personal transformation that the protagonist manages to carry out after working for a famous black singer. It is warm. It combines an aberrant background of discrimination with moments of naive comedy based on the socio-cultural differences of both. Not even remotely do I consider it deserving of the Oscar, but it becomes bearable, entertaining and very well interpreted. A film to watch passively.
