Sinners: The Fear about "Living Forever"

Many critics focus on the political metaphors in Sinners, but I believe this perspective misses the film's essence. Sinners uses vampires as its main narrative backdrop—and for beings with lifespans of thousands of years, fleeting human politics cannot profoundly impact their existence. In other words, vampires don't concern themselves with human political affairs. When they encounter human forces

Sinners Might Be the Best Film of the Year

It felt like everyone around me was talking about Sinners for a while. They said it was the best film of the year so far, that it was destined to become a modern classic, and that Ryan Coogler was a genius. The descriptions piled up like a challenge, “A vampire musical Western religious thriller fused with Black history.” Who could resist that? And yet, maybe that’s exactly why I hesitated. When a

Remmick, our favorite sinner.

Now that 'Sinners' (2025) is out digitally, it's back on social media, especially Twitter / X. For some spoiler-free context, this is a great vampire movie with racial and mystical themes, which I consider to be the best of the year so far. And we can't talk about this great film without mentioning one of its best characters, its main antagonist and, in my opinion, the supporting character who tot

‘Sinners’: Hollywood’s Savior or Gravedigger of the Studio System?

Since the start of the 2025 summer movie season, box office hits like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners have been hailed as Hollywood’s “saviors.” Their success not only revitalized theater attendance but also reportedly saved Warner Bros. executives Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy from being dismissed from their positions. Yet while Sinners became a commercial lifeline, it also sent shockwaves through t

What if Anakin NEVER Turned to the Dark Side?

In Revenge of the Sith, we saw Anakin cut off Mace Windu’s arm, join Palpatine, and become Darth Vader. But what if none of that had happened? In this alternate timeline, we explore exactly that possibility. After learning that Obi-Wan had faced Grievous, Anakin went to Chancellor Palpatine’s office. There, he discovered a terrifying truth: Palpatine was the Sith Lord they had been searching for a

The Gospel of Sinners: A Cinematic Testament of Faith and Fire

Let’s decode Sinners’ DNA—uncovering the real folklore, music history, and spiritual truths behind Ryan Coogler’s haunting vision. Sinners, the latest fever dream from director Ryan Coogler, is here to steal your soul. Even before the film dropped, I was obsessed with the trailer. Something about it whispered, this one’s different. And turns out. it is. Reviews exploded all over the internet, and

Matthew Alan Schmidt: I'm glad someone else also noticed the Robert Johnson parallel! Fantastic analysis as always. I love these deep dives you do into all the different folklore and inspirations nestled within these stories.

Sinners — The Best Film of 2025, so far

In 2013, Ryan Coogler debuted with his first film, Fruitvale Station, an acclaimed independent movie about the struggles of a young African-American citizen, based on real-life events. In the next 12 years, he's directed 4 movies, like Black Panther and Creed, always working alongside Michael B. Jordan to tell stories about the African-American community. Now, after 3 years since his last feature

Reinvention is a Lie in Sinners

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD I think I left my true Indian heritage behind when I moved to Egypt in 2004 at the age of 3, and then to Dubai in 2008, which eventually became my permanent home. I never went back for good. Sure, I returned during the summers to visit my grandparents, but I never had the chance to build real roots there. At first, I was content with living a semi-privileged life in a forei

"Sinners": The Next-Level Vampire Film We Needed

Okay, let me just say it: Sinners absolutely slaps. I walked into this one thinking, “Cool, another vampire flick, probably trying to be The Witch meets Twilight with an A24 filter slapped on.” But no. Sinners doesn’t play that game. It straight-up reprograms the vampire genre with something wilder, deeper, and weirder than I expected—and I say that as someone who's basically immune to hype. Serio

An Ode to Opening Weekend

I am not an opening weekend faithful by any means. I don’t always find myself at a screening for a film during its opening weekend. This is usually due to a couple of factors, but it is mostly due to weekend screenings being too packed for my liking. Obviously, a film screening being sold out or busy is a great thing! We need more people to go to the theatre and experience cinema! However, opening

Sinners is written and directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, among others and is the filmmaker's first foray into the horror genre. Two twin brothers, both played by Michael B. Jordan, try to put their troubled lives behind them and return to their hometown to start over, only to find that an even greater evil awaits them to welcome them back. Ryan Coogler hasn't

Sinners: This is What IMAX is For

Sinners isn't always a perfect movie, but it is perfect for IMAX. I cannot count the number of times I've seen a film in IMAX that wasn't worthy of it. You can see A Minecraft Movie in IMAX. Seriously, what are we doing? For those unaware, IMAX is a much higher resolution and immersive method of capturing and presenting film footage. Where traditional film cameras are capable of shooting on 35mm,

ReelKen: Whoa, didn’t even realize how much IMAX tech matters till your breakdown—now I gotta check out Sinners on the big screen. Tho part of me’s still skeptical… like, do all directors need that 70mm flex or just Nolan/Coogler types? Either way, your passion’s infectious. Just followed—hit me back so I can rant after my IMAX sesh next week!

Sinners and the Silence That Follows Survival

On rhythm as rebellion, survival as fracture, and the breath that outlived the burn. Preface This is one interpretation. Not the only one. This is also different from my other articles. in spirit, structure, and breath, the article moves with the rhythm of a blues song. It's how the film moved through me, how memory, rhythm, and grief pulled at something personal, then opened something larger. Thi

Sinner Sizzles long after you've left the theater. The question for viewers is what are you taking with you?

Let's start at the top by saying that Vampire movies are in my top 3 for favorite film genres. Gary Oldman' portrayal of the undead, forever heartbroken, blood sucker in 1992's Bram Stokers Dracula at this time holds the top spot. Now when you add the prolific actor, director duo of Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Fruitvale Station) and Michael B Jordan (Creed, Black Panther) to the mix I was very ex

Hell Is Empty and Demons Are Here: Let's Talk about Sinners

The creatures of the most-renowned myths, folklores and legends have always served more as an excuse to expose certain social, political and even economic topics than to glorify their anthropomorphically distorted figures. Just to mention some modern examples, it's fantastic how, on the one hand, Robert Eggers presented an overwhelming, nightmarish portrait of masculine violence with its hypnotic

'Sinners' Review: A Haunting, Soulful Ode to Black Music and the Vampires Who Feed on It

From the first shot of Sinners, you know you're in for something soul-stirring. A young man, soaked in blood and clutching a shattered guitar, stumbles into a church full of worshippers. His name is Sammie (played by newcomer Miles Caton in a revelatory performance), and his story is one of pain, beauty, and transformation. So too is Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ryan Coogler's latest film, a

We need more original films like SINNERS

Why we need more original films like Sinners is written and directed by Ryan Coogler in a film about vampires. Sinners could become the next original film to win some awards. But Coogler wasn‘t seeking awards in the time of making this movie. He wanted to convey his message through art. And that‘s exactly what he did. Sinners it‘s a film where Michael B. Jordan is playing a dual role, about two br

Is It a Sin to Not Like Sinners?

Here we go again (he says, as the voices of those who anointed The Substance the “greatest film in the history of cinema” last year continue to ring in his ears)… Where do I even start with Ryan Coogler’s Michael B. Jordan-fronted Sinners? I suppose the natural — and indeed, best — place to begin is the first act, which, if I’m being completely honest, is one of the few parts of this otherwise god

Gwen Pemberton: I don't really know what to make of this movie. Thanks for going in depth on your thoughts. I'll still check it out because its something totally new from Coogler, but I definitely see what you mean when it comes to a cluttered story

What are your picks for best and worst movie trailers?

I almost skipped catching Sinners in the theatre because the trailer was so bad. It made me think about how much a trailer can make or break a movie, especially at the box office. What are your favourite examples of good trailers and bad trailers. Especially if there are good trailers for bad movies and vice versa. Those ones are the most entertaining.

Lucas.: I loved the trailer for Inception, mainly because of its sound design and that one scene where Paris or wherever bends and flips over onto itself. So sick. Chirssy Nolan tends to have really good trailers, tbh
