Are you the girls who made that movie?

The thread trickles down from one wrist to the next. Wow, look at that colour! So ethnic. You drippin' desi-chica-chandni— "Are you the girls who made that movie?" Are You Those Brown Girls? I've been one of the lucky few who can forget, from time to time, the weight that identity, race, and culture can bear on you. In my past, a lot of learning happened through books and coming-of-age novels, or in periphery through recounts of stories by people who've been pinned to the wall by their skin and

The Zombie Ain't Your Enemy

Common sense would say: fear the flesh-eating, undead monster crawling toward you. However, after watching The Last of Us, I don't know why, but the zombies stopped feeling so important, or dangerous. Yes, you get the jaw-clenching, knuckle-gripping moment of panic when the eerie clicking sounds lock into place. It's Ellie and Joel versus the zombie world — the badass, grotesque battle scenes between human and non-human — momentarily, at least. Then, the big space of nothingness happens. Somehow

Jenn The Editor: Connecting the infected 'zombies' with the infected morals of the lead characters is soo fascinating. I loved this article!

Clutching Her Black Furs: Bianca Censori

I saw images of the Kanye West controversy on the carpet, showing off his new toy thing. Obviously, the first thing I felt after my initial discomfort was rage. Bianca Censori looks positively uncomfortable, if not frightened, clutching her black fur coat as if her life depends on it. Then, there's Ye, all stoic and shadowy in the back, and maybe this performance is not a surprise, seeing the reputation he's curated for himself-- the problem is that you can sense his domination. She is not in co

Ishika Banerjee: I think men do suck, but Kanye holds immense power in the industry because he’s a genuinely talented musician. It feels like he uses that power to his advantage—as if being a great artist gives him the right to say and do whatever he wants under the guise of artistic expression. Really cool article!

Has The Avengers Changed, Or Have I?

Ever since the trailer for Thunderbolts* dropped and soft launched a new Marvel heroes team, it's gotten me thinking about how much film has changed since the release of the original team up of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I remember exactly how it felt to watch The Avengers on opening weekend. It was May 2012, I was nine years old, and watching the first bona fide blockbuster I had ever seen. In fact, it is the first movie I remember seeing in the theatre, period. What a perfect introduction it wa

Ishika Banerjee: Unfortunately I cant be entertained anymore with surface level battles, fighting and low tier humor. I wish i could but i get this pretentious ick.

Gone Girl: Amy Dunne and the Dark Side of Love

Introduction In the beginning, Amy looks more submissive and innocent. Amy Dunne, the enigmatic protagonist of Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl," is introduced as a beautiful and intelligent woman, seemingly the epitome of a desirable partner. However, beneath this polished surface, she harbors a significant and disturbing secret. As the film unfolds, her personality is revealed to be that of a calculating sociopath, driven by a chilling thirst for revenge. Her meticulously orchestrated steps, execute

Ana Maria Herrera Orjuela: What a fascinating article, full of analysis, emotions and mainly narrative skill. Thank you for sharing it. If you agree, I would like you to read and like mine: In Spanish: Viola Davis: Un Legado de Autenticidad y Poder en la Pantalla Grande English: "The Odds": A Descent into Human Depravity

What's the Best Movie to Ever Win Best Picture?

We are in the heat of Oscar season and it has me wondering: What's the best movie to ever win best picture? I made a list of all the winners, so you don't have to. You can find it here: https://www.peliplat.com/en/list/collection/10071697/academy-award-for-best-picture-winners When I look at this list, three movies stand out as the best: The Godfather, Rocky, No Country For Old Men. There are a lot of great ones though. I wonder, what do you think is the best movie (or top 3) to ever win best picture?

Timothy Knight: Chicago and The Sound of the Music.
