modern love(Ep1-2): the secret of a mysterious doorman 100% identifying a man

Spoilers

Do you wonder that is modern love worth watching? Have you heard of New York? The show is as captivating as New York.

There are 8 episodes in the first season, and every episode tells a story, without relevance between them. Its length is about 30 minutes, so it is perfect for you to watch at lunch or on the subway. Although its name is modern love, it refers "New York love" in the broadest sense, not the romance love. You will understand after knowing the relationship between the protagonists in the eight stories. Of course, this video refers to spoilers.

Episode 1, When the Doorman Is Your Main Man

The story is mainly about a female resident and a doorman of an apartment. Maggie is an average-looking girl, and she is a book reviewer with a PhD degree. She grew up in the country and came to New York less than a year ago. Although she is knowledgeable, she lacks social experience, always being stood up by men. The doorman Guzmin is Albanian, coming from a political refugee family. His eyes are like sniper rifles, as if he could see through people. No one knows why he becomes the doorman of an apartment in New York, but I guess the man is not that simple.

It is interesting that they seem to play a game of reading people. Guzmin always judges Maggie's date, forming a conclusion that whether the man will call back or not, whether he's a good guy, etc. Without exception, Guzmin's answer is always no. The funniest thing is that Guzmin is always right. Maggie never meets a good man. What a silly girl she is.

Then, Maggie gets pregnant unexpectedly, and she decides to give birth to the child. She finds the father and tells him that he can have as much or as little as he wants. The father is also decisive. He chooses not to be around. I guess, this should be so common in New York that even TV shows have standardized lines.

Back to the topic. Like Maggie's guardian, Guzmin accompanies her as a doorman, but what he does is more than a doorman service. So does Maggie. She treats Guzmin as a power in her life. Judging from the age, they are more like a father-daughter relationship, not romantic love. Namely, they are true friends, with a friendship that companies another through the downs, feels happy for their achievements, and wishes them better and happier.

There is a classic line in the episode, which is about the game between the two. Why can Guzmin read men so accurately? Maggie moves to LA after her daughter was born, saying goodbye to colorful New York. Five years later, she revisits New York with her LA boyfriend. Of course, she needs to get Guzmin to test her boyfriend first. Unexpectedly, her new boyfriend does nothing and passes the test with ease. I can't help but wonder, what is Guzmin's secret to reading people?

D: I hear I have to pass some sort of test?

G: You passed it.

D: Cool. What did I do?

G: Nothing. I saw it in her eyes, the moment I saw her.

M: Guzmin.

G: I was never looking at the man, Maggie. I was looking at your eyes.

Say no more. Let me cry for a while.

Now, the second episode. Are you starting to look forward to the next story?

Episode 2, When Cupid Is a Prying Journalist

It can be said that the episode involves two stories. Firstly, Josh and Emma meet during a job interview. The two fall in love and are about to get married. However, Emma cheats and the two break up. After the breakup, Josh develops a dating app. It is pretty boring, isn't it? Don't worry, the story is just an introduction. The real content of the second episode is the second story I will tell next.

Josh gets many interviews after becoming a CEO. Once, a middle-aged female reporter interviews him. The reporter tells her own love story firstly, in order to know more about Josh's story. That is a 17-year appointment.

She meets a London college student when she works in Europe at 22. They agree that the man comes to her residence in Paris on weekends. But he does not show up. She loves that man and misses him every day. She has a successful career, gets married and has children now. But there is still a persistent missing in her mind. Then, the man shows up on a book signing-selling meeting.

Seeing how handsome he is, I can understand why she has been able to remember him for so long. He cherishes this opportunity of meeting, because it has been 17 years and 3 months since the Paris date. However, he never thinks that the sincerity he is eager to reveal would be rejected by her. So, he leaves a flight ticket. Back then, he leaves London for Paris, as he promised.

The two enjoy a perfect night. They spend the night on the streets of New York rather than a hotel, like two young people who enjoy romance all night long. Unlike young people, they all have their own families and responsibilities. They are no longer at an impulsive age. I am sad about them getting old. I know that they won't get divorced separately and then get together. In fact, they don't. The two separate in the early morning. That might be the end of missing.

The second episode doesn't end there. The female reporter publishes the story of Josh and Emma in the magazine, without Josh's consent. Coincidentally, Emma reads the magazine, and she comes to Josh. And Josh is inspired by the experience of the female reporter, so he decides to reunite with Emma.

But that is not important anymore. The words that the female reporter are hard to understand. It takes me a long time to understand.

“The love we had in our past, unfinished, untested, lost love, seems so easy, so childish to those of us who choose to settle down. But, actually, it's the purest, most concentrated stuff. ”

To sum up, it tells us that we should cherish when we have the ability to try for the people we love, and we should treasure when things could be changed through trying, as we can still follow our hearts and bear the consequences.

Oh my god, I've been completely overwhelmed by this drama, even though it seems unremarkable. Follow me, I will continue to update the content of modern love.
