The movie begins on the planet Kree, where Vers is the most skilled protector. Despite being set on a distant alien planet, the opening raises many questions about why the Kree resemble humans.
The Kree's leader is an A.I. called the Supreme Intelligence, which claims that the Kree are under attack by the Skrulls and emphasizes Vers's mission to protect Kree and defeat the Skrulls.
Vers possesses powerful abilities, but she can't remember how she obtained them or her life before being brought to Kree's home planet.
The Kree people may seem wealthy, cultured, and friendly, but something feels off about them.
The unfolding story reveals that they are actually an aggressive and ambitious nation. When they were fighting for the Cosmic Cube on Earth, they accidentally leaked energy onto Captain Marvel, who was just a regular pilot at the time. Reluctant to lose such a valuable weapon, the Kree brought the unconscious and amnesiac Captain Marvel back to their home planet.
This story reminds me of the classic novel "1984."
"1984" is an outstanding political allegory and a work of fantasy. The novel portrays the human condition in a totalitarian society and serves as a permanent warning label to caution against the potential realization of such a dystopia. After decades, it remains a powerful literary classic that has had a profound impact on the 20th century.
The Kree, particularly the "Supreme Intelligence," are reminiscent of "Big Brother" from the book 1984. The authoritarian regime always packages its evil as something righteous and just, controlling its people to do bad things under the guise of "justice." Until people realize the truth, being deceived by the regime, they believe they are doing what is right, and this is the most terrifying kind of evil.
This allegorical story makes the villains in the movie extremely formidable, making it much more sophisticated than other Marvel films.
Unexpected Character Growth
The expression of Captain Marvel's growth story is delicate, especially regarding her growth.
The movie begins with her amnesia and a battle against the Skrulls, where she develops a deep hatred for them and wants to wipe them out. The fight between them on Earth is equally intense.
Through constant flashbacks, Captain Marvel finally discovers her past, including her life goal of protecting Kree and the Skrulls being portrayed as villains was a lie created by the "Supreme Intelligence." This leads her into a state of confusion.
While Vers struggles with the meaning of her life, her past friends on Earth remind her of who she was before the amnesia, a person named Carol Danvers, who had her unique interests, flaws, and emotions.
After regaining her identity, Vers finds her true purpose and becomes Captain Marvel. From that moment on, I genuinely understand this superhero, and she becomes more vivid.
Nostalgic Elements in the Film
