Season 2 of "The White Lotus" focuses on gender and power, making it even more captivating than the previous season. The fluidity of gender power doesn't require generations to accumulate, and it extends beyond just gender issues.
The three men searching for their families represent different types but are ultimately the same. Bert has been flirting with women his entire life, yet he claims to have loved his wife all along. We can't know for sure if they truly loved each other. Perhaps in Bert's time, his wife didn't have many choices.

Dominic yearns for a warm, loving family but struggles to control his desires. Despite his outward appearance of submission, we can imagine the harm he causes his wife within their relationship. Despite his wealth and resources in Hollywood, what he truly craves is a loving family. The irony lies in his inability to sustain a 53-year marriage like his father did. Times have changed, and his wife is unwilling to accept such a relationship. In contrast, two other young couples face different challenges as they climb the social ladder. One couple chooses to adapt and change their lifestyle to maintain their current status, while the other remains stagnant, unsure of what they are fighting for.
Albie is a young, well-educated, and financially well-off handsome guy who prides himself on respecting women, but this respect is based on wanting to please them. The most clever scene is when he says he wants to pull Lucia out of the fire but pushes his mother down instead. Albie's mother has always said that Albie is a very considerate and thoughtful boy, and she will never think her son is the same as her husband. Perhaps it can be said that most men, once who have a choice, find it hard to stop once they start choosing.
Ethan did not enter this circle not because of how high his self-control was, but because he had been in a suppressive environment for a long time. He did not have this proactive, aggressive life, and when facing the prostitute, he didn't know what to do, so he stopped. Ethan did not cheat not because he loves his wife or has great self-control, but simply because he is not used to it.
Lucia got the money, Mia became the singer she wanted to be. In their environment and perception, the body is the only way to achieve their goals quickly and efficiently. After sleeping with Albie, Lucia didn't fall in love with this American handsome guy. Instead, she took a long-term approach and tried her luck. The next morning, she still collected her payment. Mia wants the singer job, and she's okay with sleeping with a lesbian or a creepy singer. So here, power prevails, and gender issues can be ignored as long as there's power involved. They may seem passive, but they don't see themselves as victims of the system, just like Albie does.

As in Season 1, the illustration at the beginning of the episode reflects the characteristics of the characters.
Here is the name of Bert's actor, he is used to flattering women, and his wife who he claims has been happily married for 53 years. His wife throws away this necklace, which looks beautiful but is also a kind of chain. This woman has a long crack on her body, while the man kneeling beside her is unharmed.
The image of the bird is very suitable for Harper's habit of judging people from a superior position, but the bird is also weak. At the same time, the appearance of another bird helps her cut off her feathers. I find it difficult to speculate what the other bird symbolizes subjectively. According to the plot, this bird could represent Cam, Ethan, or Daph.
I believe Ethan is the most likely candidate. From the beginning, Ethan and Harper share a similar trait of invisible superiority. Despite Cameron subtly undermining Ethan in college, Ethan still perceives himself as smarter and better. This pair symbolizes the couple. They were initially soaring freely like birds in the sky until Ethan's class consciousness shifted. They either drifted apart or fell together. As the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that Ethan was the first to lose interest in Harper, and he was also the one to take the initiative to repair their relationship in the end. Thus, he metaphorically clipped Harper's wings. Without the perspective of flight, they are no different from Cameron and his wife.

Tanya sees the prenuptial agreement as a chain to keep Greg in check. In her mind, Greg is not a lover but rather a tool that makes her feel loved. The monkey image suits Greg in Tanya's eyes - cunning and ugly, while she is the beautiful princess trapped in a castle.

The actress in this image is Mia, with her breast exposed. Her dreams are her wings, and she looks down on others from above, using her body to achieve her goals. In a way, she embodies the image of a goddess and is great.

Lucia's image resembles a cat with fish in its mouth, covered in leopard spots. However, in terms of size, she is small and has the fierceness of a leopard but the stature of a cat.

The sheep next to Porita symbolizes her weak character and family background. There are two possible interpretations: one is that Portia is the sheep looking at the lady, and the lady is Tanya; the other is that the collapsed woman herself is Portia, and her nihilistic attitude towards life determines her state.

In the end, Cameron didn't secure the investment he desired, Ethan's marital status changed, Tanya tragically lost her life, Dominic was blackmailed by their son for 50,000 euros, Bert was unable to find his family, Albie was deceived by a woman, and Portia lost both her boss and her job. It may seem that the one who sold her body is a sinner, but she managed to achieve her goals.

There's a theme of buying and selling desires throughout the season, with desires always being tested and ultimately found lacking. Season 2 of "The White Lotus" is intriguing as it portrays characters who believe they are pure and innocent, yet their actions reveal otherwise. Dominic receives a new chance thanks to his son's kind words, Ethan's relationship overcomes a sexual drought, Albie and Portia remain outsiders until the end, and the character perceived as the most pure and innocent ultimately sells her body and gains significant wealth. The irresistible desires of the characters serve as the central conflict in this season.
