We live in time: A beautiful farewell announced. Spoilers

One of the last great movies that have been released at the end of 2024, was "We Live in Time," starring two fascinating and charming Brits, as Andrew Garfield, the beloved by all, and Florence Pugh. I had a good expectation from the beginning for this instalment, and when I saw it a couple of weeks ago, I was not disappointed at all. So, again, I invite you to read me and to discern each point I mention in the article to tell you the beauty of this great farewell announced from its premise.

The painful and beautiful coincidence of their lives

The story begins with a recently divorced Tobias going through his grief and heartbreak, looking homeless and feeling miserable, which we would probably all do in that situation. After returning from a small supermarket to buy a few things and his favourite cookies to pass the time of sadness, he drops something in the middle of the road, and when it's time to pick it up, he is run over by the woman who would end up being the woman of his entire life.

After the accident that could have ended Tobias' life, Almut decided to stay with him until he woke up; they met and started talking; they even went to dinner. Gradually, the connection between the two grew. Almut invited him to the opening of his restaurant, and they ended up at his house having sex. After that, everything just started to flow a lot more.

But of course, don't believe that in this process Tobias, as a good man who was recently hurt and afraid of being hurt again, took things to a more serious tone in the relationship, having a conversation in which he was hurt, and they distanced themselves for a while. However, Tobias realized what a mistake he had made and came back to-although it wasn't at the best time-it only showed how determined he was to get her back, in a way. Ironically, through an accident that could have cost Tobias his life, he ended up finding the beautiful flame he was missing, which would be Almut.

A relationship built on resilience

After having a nice time as a relationship, Almut begins to have some discomfort in her stomach; she decides to go to the doctor and later announces to Tobias that she has stage 3 ovarian cancer and a recurrence. From this event that occurred with Al's disease, they begin the process of her treatment to procure her improvement and life.

Through this journey of recovery from cancer, they decide to have their daughter and start a family together.

Thanks to this major drawback born in the film, which is Almut's sudden cancer, is where I consider that the great strength of the plot is born, a couple built on resilience.

The amount of adversity they had to face as a couple and marriage, thanks to the complexity of the situation due to illness, emotional and even economic wear and tear (although it is not mentioned in the film), is something for which, beyond the strength of both, supporting a daughter as well, you can see the conflicts created by the mere fact that "every second counts" as far as Almut's life is concerned.

And this is what makes the story palpable and realistic—something created so that even people who have had to go through similar situations can identify with the emotional narrative of this story. We Live In Time Trailer Florence Pugh Andrew Garfield Reactions

The perfect buffer against a foretold end

One detail that I found excellently done in the film was that, despite knowing from the first minute the announced death of Almut due to his illness and the title of the film itself, I thought that, as usual, when it came to the end, I would probably end up crying; however, to my surprise, that did not happen.

Did this hurt my experience, or did it not meet my expectations? Not at all; it even improved it, because I feel there was a good job done so that the viewer could understand the inevitable goodbye within the story of both protagonists. She showed up to save his life and then left, leaving him all of herself with her beautiful one to continue living for her. A completely beautiful message and a properly executed cushioning of events. As a plus, also mention how excellent the visual work is; many shots are beautiful to my eyes, and I managed to get attached to the love that was transmitted through the lens.

In closing, I hope that through the message of "We live in time," you will understand the importance of living every second as if it were your last and enjoying absolutely every possible experience with your loved ones, as we will never know when we will have to say goodbye.
