Monkey Man: The Beast Awakens

Spoilers

Monkey Man

A science fiction film that, while it doesn't exactly revive the genre itself, has already been done by our acclaimed John Wick. It is a fairly interesting action film, but when I saw the poster, it didn't convince me. I'll be very honest, I put it to bed, and I couldn't because it really is a great film that you shouldn't miss. And because this film brings a different and extravagant approach to modern cinema.

Let's start from the beginning. Monkey Man is an Indian film released last year, 2024.
With its protagonist, Dev Patel, who, despite being an Indian film, brings a very different approach.
It's a classic, super-realistic action film where our protagonist survives multiple rivals and misfortunes that send any normal human being into a sleep of no return.

Monkey Man is a film that addresses the theme of a young woman who is paid to fight in underground fights and always loses "Since that's part of the show." Simply one day our protagonist gets tired of that situation and decides to leave. But behind that we see a small traumatic background of our protagonist that gives more depth and essence to the main plot. Where it very emphatically shows us the bond that the protagonist had with his mother when he was just a child. Oh, something I forgot to tell you before. The story of Monkey Man refers to a cultural story about Indian gods and their cultural beliefs where they refer to the story of a monkey god, and how the kings banished him from paradise and punished him with fire. And although at the beginning of the film it may not seem relevant, we later see that it has a lot of similarity with our protagonists since while we watch this small allegorical story we see that the town where the inhabitants of that village reside with our protagonist is attacked by a corrupt group of police officers, causing damage to the village. Where our antagonist provides the necessary character development to the protagonist of this story, Sikandar Kher, known in the film as "Ranar," is a police officer who attempts to rape the protagonist's mother. She resists and is murdered before her son's eyes, leaving a lifelong trauma of revenge in our protagonist.

Later, our protagonist manages to enter "Ranar's" inner circle, requesting an almost successful attack, but narrowly failing, and having to flee the scene with the police in his wake. He manages to escape almost dead. Later, he is rescued by a religious group, where they take him as a sign of a message from their God that will bring freedom to their people. He goes through the mythical training section necessary for the character to reach his full potential and be able to fulfill his main objective, which is revenge against "Rana," where he ultimately achieves his long-awaited revenge and the liberation of his spirit.

And so, without further ado, let me highlight several important points.
The first point to highlight is the film's color range, which stands out both in the fight scene and in scenes as simple as when they're in a room. The film's director knows how to dramatically capture the characteristic colors of India and make it look extremely harmonious on screen.
The second point is that the fight choreography is very well done and placed in the right places. One of the most fascinating things about this film is its sequence shots during a fight with a machete. WHAT!!

That decision by the film is incredibly incredible, and for me as a viewer, it was quite interesting.
The third point is that it has a very enriching story, but it gets to the point where it becomes long and boring for the general viewer.
It's truly a film I really liked. I was quite happy to see one of my favorite Indian actors make a film of this caliber, which is absolutely worth watching and is quite good on my list. It got a 7 out of 10 for possessing and making the main drama too long.
But in short, it's a good movie that won't go unnoticed if you haven't seen it yet.

So I invite you to give it a chance and give me a like.
