What Will My Children Think of The Legend of Ochi?

Look, I’m not going to lie to you. I don’t think my children will think anything of The Legend of Ochi. I’m not saying it was a bad movie - it was definitely a nice break from mainstream sludge. It just doesn’t feel like a classic for the ages. And that’s fair enough. Not everything has to be eternal… Or does it? I’m only asking because I’m having an existential crisis. As much as I enjoyed the film, what I took away from it was a sense that we’re losing something in the sands of time so slowly

The Legend of Ochi

Gwen Pemberton: I was gonna skip Legend of Ochi, but I didn't know they were using practical puppets! I'm intrigued

Fleabag: Here's to Peace, and Those That Get in the Way Of It

Fleabag as a show is hard to define. It's darkly clever, hilariously crude, and unexpectedly heartbreaking. It's considered by critics, and Obama, to be one of the best tv shows of the 2010s, if not of all time. But I think it resonates most with most of us who are also hard to define, a little crude, and a little heartbroken. It's become a cult classic despite its success. If you don't believe me, just google Fleabag fan art. It was written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the brilliant mind behind Kil

Gwen Pemberton: I'm so torn about this one! I love the way that it wrapped up, but I also want more time with Fleabag. Great read :)

Come, Learn Death's Design 🫠

When the first Final Destination came out, I was just about to turn sixteen years old. With a springtime release, it came out March 17, 2000, and it had some great headliners in Devon Sawa and Ali Larter alone. However, this wasn't the only thing they had up their sleeve with the presence of other greats and notables such as Seann William Scott and the legendary Tony Todd. May he rest in peace. Tony Todd 12/4/1954-11/6/2024 Just mentioning Tony's name, I got chills because of the length of time

Star Wars: Light ashes - When the force is no longer reached

By: Fernando Ramírez Vanegas Every generation needs its own story. But what if that story doesn't begin with hope, but with a great void? In a galaxy that has already forgotten the brilliance of the Jedi and the shadows of the Dark Side, Ashes of the Light proposes a bold narrative. A rebirth without glory, where the Force is no longer a mystical power, but an unhealed wound. This is a story about what could have been after the story we already know as canon. About what remains when heroes disap

Crew expendable- Alien, The Thing, and the Horror of Systems That Let the Monster In

Certainty Was the First Casualty This is one reading among many. Alien and The Thing have been mapped as Cold War allegories, feminist parables, psychoanalytic puzzles, and foundations of body horror. Each interpretation cracks the ice in a different place. Each shines its light down a separate corridor. What follows doesn’t overwrite those readings; it stalks beside them, quiet as breath in the dark. Not a definitive claim, but a focused one: this is a study of how systems built to ensure order

The Myth Was Never Ours: Star Wars, Race, and the Grief of False Inheritance

Episode VI: The Grief of Myth Denied “The place in which I’ll fit will not exist until I make it.” — James Baldwin, 1961 A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away… A story was told about hope. It began with rebels and chosen ones. With light against darkness. With faith in a Force that could bind the galaxy together. But over time, the mask didn’t just slip, it blinked. New faces entered the frame. The myth circled back. Some were asked to save the story. Others were never allowed to belong t

Beauty is a Knife: The Body Horror of ‘The Ugly Sister’

“Mama! They’re totally broke!” A young girl screamed as she burst out of the castle, desperate to report this unfortunate discovery to her mother, who’d married into nobility. This early scene in the Norwegian film “The Ugly Stepsister” instantly made me suspect that what I was watching was a dark, adult version of “Cinderella.” When the plot shifted focus to a girl resorting to self-inflicted pain and physical transformation in a desperate bid to win the prince’s attention, it became clear: the

The Ugly Stepsister: The Fairy Tale Disney Fears

Forget all those feel-good stories you grew up with, especially Disney’s latest snooze-fest, Snow White. Seriously, that movie had me dozing off. It’s like they’re shoving this fake “politically correct” vibe down our throats, as if fairy tales can’t handle the messy, dark stuff of real life. That’s one reason I can’t stand Disney—they’re too scared to touch reality. In contrast, the Norwegian film The Ugly Stepsister is a whole different vibe. It doesn’t shy away from the ugliness and pains—it
