Biography

“An artist is someone who should raise questions rather than give answers.” Michael Haneke is a director and screenwriter. He attended the University of Vienna to study philosophy, psychology and theater, three key disciplines keep in mind when it comes to understand the concept of his work. Since his masterful debut film "The seventh continent" (1989), it is notable that he has a fixation with the problems of modern society and human dilemmas, visible in the narrative and aesthetics of his films. Haneke is a born provocateur who uses tools such as Brechtian distancing, explicit violence, long shots and sound design to generate controversy and discomfort in the viewer. He is a two-time Palme d'Or winner, for "The White Ribbon" in 2009 and "Amour" in 2012. He was also chosen as the 2013 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts for his contribution to culture.
