Biography

"I'm not dangerous, but I have a sharp nose. I'll probably play bad guys forever because of my face." Pedro Pascal is famous for captivating audiences with his playful and irreverent charm. Born José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal in Santiago, Chile, his family sought political asylum in the United States because of his opposition to military dictator Augusto Pinochet. Pascal's career in film and television spans a wide range of genres, with science fiction and action projects as his signature. Starting with minor TV roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Law and Order," his consecration came with his portrayal of Oberyn Martell in "Game of Thrones" and Javier Pena in "Narcos." He was also acclaimed for his role in "The Mandalorian," which earned him a Critics Choice Awards nomination, and later in "The Last of Us," demonstrating his versatility in one of the most ambitious video game adaptations. Also in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle", "Wonder Woman 1984", and alongside Ethan Hawke in Pedro Almodovar's short western "Strange Way of Life". While he enjoys well-deserved success that has helped pave the way for greater Latino representation, he maintains a great deal of humility. From his self-deprecating and hilarious social media videos to Saturday Night Live, where he pokes fun at his leading man status, Pascal also champions LGBTQ+ causes, using his platform to amplify their voices.

The Eddington Pandemic

There’s no middle ground with Ari Aster. Either your brain gets scrambled and you develop mommy issues, or you hate all his stuff. There’s also usually no middle ground in the essence of his work; he either goes all in with risky, bold thematic writing and graphic tones, or he doesn’t make the movie at all. That was the case with Hereditary, Midsommar, Beau Is Afraid, and definitely The Strange Th

What the Eddington Poster Means

Left to rot. Incapacitated. Destroyed by a force he doesn't entirely comprehend. Waiting to die. Near the end of Eddington, Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix) finds himself running, stumbling, falling down a cliff side, as he is chased by a group of unidentified shooters. He miraculously misses their bullets. When he reaches the bottom of the cliff, which doubles as the start of his small town, Eddington

Fantastic Four: First Steps is EVERYTHING I wanted from Marvel

It must be hard to reinvent yourself… There’s a beautiful line of dialogue in Forrest Gump—delivered by Tom Hanks while he runs and thinking about his beloved mother—that says, “You have to put the past behind you before you can move on.” Sometimes I think about that, and I find myself overwhelmed by feelings and emotions I can’t even explain. But what does it truly mean to reinvent yourself? Is i

Transactional Affection and Quantified Intimacy in Materialists

I sat beneath the velvet gloom of the theater and felt the ledger breathe. Watching Materialists I felt an uneasy recognition. Dakota Johnson’s matchmaker drafted human futures by candlelight, Pedro Pascal’s financier glided across marble with the hush of money too old to remember its first sin, and Chris Evans bore the shabby nobility of every poet who pays rent with hope. My own circumstances mi
Gwen Pem: You seriously know your philosophers. Materialists definitely woke up my class conciousness as well. So much of the production design really put me in my financial place lol

Why Eddington is the most Ari Aster movie Ever?

Eddington is the new film directed and written by Ari Aster and follows the story of Sheriff Joe Cross and how he survives a world where he needs to use mask to combat the COVID-19 and when Mayor Ted Garcia implements this rule… he decides to run for mayor to remove that law. Ari Aster is a director that has a controversial filmography and since Beau is Afraid, I am literally afraid of his new adv

Value Investing in Materialists

One of the big themes in Materialists is the value we put on relationships. This is crystallized in the scene where Lucy (Dakota Johnson) comforts a scared bride. What Lucy makes clear to the bride is that she loves her soon-to-be husband because her sister's jealousy of their relationship makes her feel valued. It's not that her husband provides her with material things, but that his very existen

The Most Materialistic Part About Materialists Was the Chemistry

The response is split down the middle. I still think the movie sucked. Okay, maybe that's a little bit too harsh, but I just don't feel like I ever connected with anyone or anything in that theatre. Everything felt so bland. So emotionless. What were the stakes, really? Lucy just complained about how mathematical romance had become for her, and then also dated two super hot guys. Don't even get me
Ishika: Love can be messy, but if u make ur main protagonist lowkey boring and not a good person, im officially tuned out.

The Best Marvel Movie Since Infinity War — And It's Not Even Close

I Never Cared About The Fantastic Four — Until Now I’ve never been a huge fan of The Fantastic Four in live action. They’ve always struck me as a uniquely tricky ensemble to adapt — not just because of their powers, but because of their tone. The team’s original comics are steeped in old-timey optimism, that golden-age glow of the ‘60s Space Race. And every attempt to modernize them has, in my opi
