Storyline:  Based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation follows Lena (Natalie Portman), a biologist whose husband returns gravely ill after being in a mysterious area known as the Shimmer. In search of answers and a possible cure, she joins an expedition of female scientists to explore the area, where the laws of nature seem to have been altered.
