Storyline:  When star reporter Hildy Johnson announces he’s quitting the Chicago newspaper game to marry and settle down, his editor, Walter Burns, refuses to let him go without a fight. Walter tries everything—denial, insults, persuasion, even elaborate tricks—to keep his ace journalist on the job. The timing couldn’t be more critical: the city is buzzing on the eve of the execution of an alleged communist, with every paper scrambling for the story. Hildy just wants to catch his midnight train to his fiancée, but when the condemned man escapes—and practically lands in Hildy’s lap—he’s drawn back into the chaos of the pressroom, unable to resist the lure of the scoop.
