Storyline:  The series opens with Sheriff Rick Grimes, who awakens from a coma to find the world immersed in a zombie apocalypse. Rick becomes the leader of a group of survivors who protect each other not only from the 'walkers' but also from the fears and selfishness of other survivors. The seasons progress and the characters become more and more, some gain prominence and others are left behind. The narrative focuses on the relationships between the characters, how they evolve and what loyalties they choose to preserve.
