"Obi-Wan Kenobi": Zero for the Plot, Full Marks for the Feelings!

Hi, I'm your old friend Aurora, and these two years have definitely been a carnival for Star Wars fans. Since the broadcast of "The Mandalorian" in 2019, the word of mouth of "Star Wars spin-off drama" has been established, and the whole network has been fascinated by these interstellar dad and 50-year-old cute baby. I also almost buy the Grogu derivative, it's sooooo cute. But then I touch my wallet and forget about it...

In this new Star Wars spinoff, Disney has made a trump card. After 17 years, the stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen of “Star Wars prequels” are back. Six years of preparation time, hundreds of millions of investments, the core characters of Star Wars have all reappeared on the screen, and every message has hit my heart. The sudden attack of the already dead youth caught me off guard!

I have watched it on the day it has launched on May 27, and IMDb instantly has tens of thousands of comments, with a rating of 9.1 and a freshness rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. Is it expected to become the brightest star in the Disney+ series? Alright, alright, without further ado, today, I want to roast the long-awaited Star Wars spin-off, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”!

The viewing threshold for this drama is a bit high. If you have not seen the previous works, you may be a little confused when watching it. My suggestion is to first watch the previous seven movies to make up lessons before watching. If you don't have the patience, before watching "Obi-Wan Kenobi", at least know who Obi-Wan is?

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most important characters throughout the “Star Wars” prequels and the original trilogy. In the fan vote Star Wars popularity rankings, he is either the first or second. He is a brave and upright, both civil and military, a legendary Jedi Master.

Obi-Wan in different works has many different nicknames: such as King of Personality, King of Highland, King of Hanging Walls... King of Personality means that he always sticks to his creed, elegant and easy-going, he is very lucky, and he has never lost in the gambles of life; King of Hanging Walls means that every time he is shot down off a cliff, as long as he hangs on the cliff wall with one hand, he would definitely be able to fight back in the next second; King of Highland means that as long as he stands higher than his opponent, he would definitely be able to fight back and win. The catchphrase he greets is "Hello there", I translate it as: "Silence, everyone, I'm going to be funny!" Hahaha...

I'm not scolding him. As a Star Wars fan, I absolutely love Obi-Wan. Not because of his sense of humor, but because of his rough and moving life experience. A long time ago, in a distant galaxy, there is a righteous organization called "Jedi". A jedi is good at the forces and always do the good things.Obi-Wan has first appeared as an apprentice under Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Later, in the crisis of the Galactic Republic, his master is killed, and he has taken Anakin Skywalker as his apprentice. After many years, the two master and apprentice have fought side by side until they have succeeded in seizing power, which is so cool! Sadly, Anakin has turned villain and become Darth Vader. Later, he has experienced a series of betrayals and ended up with nothing. It's touching that he still hasn't given up justice and hope...

Then, the plot develops to "Obi-Wan Kenobi", where he goes incognito on the planet Tatooine and silently guards Anakin's son. He encounters a series of traps, tests, battles... the infinite loop, never ending. It’s a little tiring, but you know how things work!

But I always feel that the highest task of Star Wars is babysitting. Hahaha, sure enough, after “The Mandalorian”, the plot of "Obi-Wan Kenobi" also continues in this way. Of course, Obi-Wan is much better than The Mandalorian. So, the screenwriter takes great efforts to increase the difficulty and let him bring two babies at the same time, Luke and Leia. The ultimate theme is to see which male mother can babysitting better!

I think whether you have interests in watching "Obi-Wan Kenobi" depends on whether you really love the Star Wars series. Because you have thought Obi-Wan is "a hero for the country and the people", but Obi-Wan in the drama is actually like "Skywalker, how can I live without you!"

IMG_287
Oh, by the way, not only with the babysitting, but the cast of "Obi-Wan Kenobi" are also very good, please see the cast list! But I have a question, that is, these actors are too difficult to recognize in the drama, and being able to find them in the drama is also one of the joys of watching it.

The action and special effects in the drama are also above the standard. There are street fights with bare hands, chase gunfights that jump over the eaves and walls, and even the referee spins the lightsaber and pulls people to the front, followed by a scream scene... I am shocked! And I just want to see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader's real lightsaber duel!

There are also a lot of Easter eggs in the drama, such as the toy plane Obi-Wan gives Luke, his actions to appease little Leia, the clone trooper in the civilian world, the Anakin lightsaber buried in the desert, and Darth Vader’s appearance ... For fans, it is absolutely full of sincerity and sincere feelings, but for non-fans, there are only tributes and memories left!

IMG_295
The overall review of "Obi-Wan Kenobi" is somewhere between "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett". Aside from feelings, the plot can only be said to be mediocre, and it even makes a lot of jokes. Obi-Wan now has lost the Force, he can't even beat the gangster, can't catch up with the little girl, and still talks about training Luke all day. I just want to ask, how does him train Luke?

IMG_300
In the future, there are still several "Star Wars" spin-offs to be broadcasted, it seems that I have something to look forward to again. For example, "Andor" will broadcast in August, "Skeleton Crew" and "Ahsoka Tano" will be launched in 2023, and also the third season of "The Mandalorian". There is also a new Star Wars movie coming soon. ... I expect Star Wars to bring us new surprises, not just feelings. Finally, may the Force be with you!
