A Silver Lining Finally Came
2010 was a tough year for Brendan Fraser, with two movies that flopped at the box-office.
Extraordinary Measures, starring him and Harrison Ford, cost $31 million to make only $12 million.
Another movie Furry Vengeance, cost $35 million and took in only $17.5 million. Both movies were among Forbes' top 10 money-losing films of that year.

In fact, Brendan has starred in a number of previous box-office disasters such as the movie Dudley Do-Right in 1999, which invested more than $70 million but made less than $10 million.
However, since The Mummy was so popular in the past, people were more forgiving of him, and after The Mummy 3 ended in 2008, Brendan Fraser began to be repeatedly criticized as box-office poison.
After 2012, he began to gain a significant amount of weight. After a few years, although he occasionally appeared in movies and TV series, but no more commercial blockbusters, only small roles.
In 2016, Brendan joined the third season of The Affair, appearing as a portly prison guard with a big belly, losing his old looks and stature, but earning him applause for his acting.
In 2019, he starred in DC's hit TV series Doom Patrol, playing the Mech Cliff Steele.

In the American TV series Trust (2018), he played the wise and humorous detective James Fletcher Chace as a vivid and flexible character.

Speaking of Fraser's latest film, he starred in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and other familiar faces.
Last year, he starred in Batgirl, a $90 million blockbuster that was canceled by DC before it was even released.

In his latest movie, Whale, Brendan plays 600-pound father Charlie. As the father nears the end of his life, he is stubborn and determined to eat himself to death, and only Charlie's estranged daughter Ellie is the last hope to save him.
In the film, Brendan is unbelievably fat, and he has to carry a latex model weighing dozens of pounds to perform. Brendan Fraser took a deep bow as he hugged and wept with director Darren Aronofsky at the premiere of Whale.

He will never get back the beauty and physique that once belonged to him, but he is still trying to learn to be a good enough actor.
At this year's Toronto Film Festival, Brendan ran into Michelle Yeoh, who co-starred in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).
Now that their new films: Whale, Everything Everywhere All at Once are both produced by A24, we wonder if they will win awards during the awards season.
