With the release of the DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, fans have always been concerned about who will direct the movie ‘Superman: Legacy’, but now it seems that Gunn's responsibilities may not only stop at writing the script and serving as the top executive behind the scenes.

The Hollywood Reporter's Hot Vision newsletter revealed that DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn may direct the upcoming ‘Superman: Legacy’ movie, which will be released in summer 2025.

While writing the scripts for the Superman reboot as well as the animated ‘Creature Commandos’ HBO Max series, it was also noted that James Gunn is currently working with the writers' studio to map out a DC story that could unfold over the next 5-10 years.
Gunn has taken to social media to solicit fans' opinions on how Superman should develop, specifically asking if viewers would like to see classic red trunks on his costume, which aren't available in Zack Snyder's rendition of the hero.

It's clear that Gunn wants to take control of the script to make sure the character is done the right way, and if he ends up directing the movie, he's going to hand-craft it.
With just over two years until ‘Superman: Legacy’ arrives, and with many approved projects to complete, Gunn will use every bit of time available to develop the Kryptonian hero's story to ensure the details are top-notch.
Superman: Legacy will be released on July 11, 2025.
