An In-depth Analysis of the Costumes of House Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones’ 2/2

As we know, Joffrey is an inbred child of Cersei and Jaime. I think no one will object to putting Joffrey into House Lannister.

Joffrey is very afraid of "father" Robert. When Robert was alive, he honestly wore the same clothes as his father.

With Robert dead, his power ascended to the top, utterly lawless. The trial meeting of Ned was his first public appearance since taking the throne.

In addition to the antler crown and the almost invisible antler brooch, what he wore was a Lannister look: red and gold color, and a parent-child outfit with Cersei, especially the huge lion embroidery on the sleeves, which is so big that nobody will avoid it.

Obviously, because of the issue of blood lineage, he is at the cusp of the legality of inheritance. However, from his outfit, we can find out that he is not afraid of any voice.

The red leather jacket worn under the golden cloak also has detachable sleeves. In the left picture, he took off the sleeves while walking with Sansa.

Although Joffrey often dresses like a walking luxurious curtain, I think his taste is a bit higher than some brands. At least he never piles up indiscriminately. At least, he would not wear like a nouveau riche.

It was easy to understand why Joffrey had dressed in such rich splendor. That is the only way he could look like a king.

The less confident he is, the more he loves using foreign objects to gain faith.

In addition, two other places show this. One is a clip of Joffrey trying on a new outfit. He is wearing a white swatch, and to the right is the poor tailor and a pile of fabrics waiting to be chosen. Probably because he thought the flower pattern was too weak, he reprimanded the tailor severely. It wasn't until the tailor brought him a dagger-patterned velvet that Joffrey nodded.

Changing the base color of the dagger print from red to black created his future shroud and the mourning dress of his mother.

After taking the throne, Joffrey immediately ordered to restore the Iron Throne Hall to the rough and cold style of the Targaryen dynasty. In his eyes, Targaryen was the true conqueror, and the original decoration of flowers and vines was not worthy of the Throne Room.

For both weddings, Jofer attended in a totally golden style.

When he and Little Rose got married, they each wore a crown. Joffrey's one is dominated by antlers and embellished with buds. And Margaery's one is a blooming rose twisted and embossed with antlers.

The appearance combination of antlers and roses is the strong alliance of the two families, but the subtle difference implies that the two families are secretly wrestling with each other.

Tywin gave Joffrey a wedding present of one of the Valyrian steel swords of Ned had melted. The scabbard and hilt are decorated with deer heads, inlaid with six rubies, five small and one large.

Joffrey named the sword "Widow's Wail" when he got it. The cruel intention was self-evident. However, he didn't expect that the Wail widow was his mother a few hours later.

The description of this armor in the book appears in Sansa's POV chapter. And she saw through Joffrey that the exterior is bright and beautiful, but the interior is empty. Sure enough, in the end, King Joffrey lived up to our expectations to end up running away.

The Battle of the Blackwater was the only time Joffrey wore a full suit of armor.

His armor is extremely luxurious, just as in the book, which is Lannister-style. How to behave in a battle he did not know, but the pomp must be done first.

Uncle Tyrion also complained about Joffrey's armor.

There is a 10-person team in the costume department that is responsible for making clothes and armor old, adding stains, wear, and other traces of use so that the picture is more realistic. The designer specifically emphasized that Coward Joffrey's armor did not require this step.

New armor meant no signs of battle. It was a disgrace to a true knight. In the first season, when Ned faced the provocation from Jaimes, he also taunted him with this.

The one of King Joffrey is the most complicated. The breastplates of generals like James and Tywin are simple, and the others remain unchanged. The general soldiers are more simplified, retaining the color and style without the lion relief.

The armor of the Lannister family decreases in luxury from left to right.

Joffrey got self-respect compensation from killing and abuse, but given that his swordsmanship was quite weak (in the first season, he was defeated by Erya), and his perverted nature was all released with a bow and crossbow. It is understandable. After all, the operation of the bow and crossbow is more foolish.

His crossbow is embroidered with beads and the head of a lion on top. Later, Tyrion shot Tywin with it.

Many seasons ago, the designer was asked which male character had the most clothes, and she answered Joffrey. When the whole show ended, more than one person surpassed him. It can be seen that whoever lives longer can have the last laugh.

The beautiful boy Lancel appeared as a doormat at the mercy of others. He is Cersei's cousin, who has two functions, warming her bed and killing for her.

Lancel Podrick

In the first season, Lancel's public identity is Robert's squire. He prepared spirits for Robert during his hunt under the order of Cersei, causing Robert killed by a wild boar.

Wearing the same uniform as an attendant, Lancel was as tender as a frightened fawn, while Podrick had honesty written all over his face.

Because he did things well, Cersei canonized him as a knight. He had an armored look in the second season in the Blackwater River battle. What inside the armor is the leather jacket with a lapel worn by his cousin Jaime, but his one is much more exaggerated.

The hem and lining are spliced with fabrics with complicated patterns, and floral ribbons are worn on shoulders, inheriting the gorgeous aesthetics of House Lannister.

Taking solace from the Seven Gods while recuperating from an injury at the Battle of the Blackwater, he returned in Season 5 with a complete makeover as a religious fanatic controlled by the spirit of High Sparrow.

Abandoning the glory and wealth, he dressed in rags with crossed iron chains on his shoulders and the logo of the Seven Gods engraved on his forehead. The once-thin body has also become thick and burly. The actor Eugene Simon especially gained muscle and weight for the character, and he never lost weight again.
