An In-depth Analysis of the Costumes of House Baratheon in ‘Game of Thrones’

Spoilers

The crest of House Baratheon is a black stag on a yellow background. After Robert became a king, he put a golden crown around the stag's neck (on the head in the novel). When stags are used as decoration, they are mostly in the form of antlers.

4.5 of the crowns appearing in the show belonged to House Baratheon, half of which was Margaery Tyrell's. The shapes of these crowns are all made of antlers. However, Robert's antlers looked more like a moose than the stag on the crest.

The second brother Stannis is the king of light. His armor is as stereotypical as himself, except for the beating red heart which is a new clan crest on his chest.

The third brother Renly who married the Tyrell family changed his family crest color scheme to the green background gold pattern of House Tyrell. Renly wore a green neckerchief and sash accordingly. His rainbow guards wore helmets also decorated with deer heads and flowers.

A blacksmith familiar with the three Baratheon brothers once used metal as a metaphor for the three:

If Robert is real steel, then Stannis is pure iron that is black and hard but also fragile, and like iron, it will break before it can be bent. As for Renly, he was like shiny brass, beautiful look but not worth much.

Renly's armor in the original book was green but changed to copper in the show. I don't know if the designer has referred to this message before.

Gendry was a blacksmith, a good crafter. He made himself a bullhead helmet, so got the nickname "Big Bull".

It wasn't until the third season that Gendry learned from Melisandre that his biological father was King Robert. When Davos went to find him on Steel Street in the seventh season, he immediately took out the Warhammer he had built for himself for a long time and followed without saying a word.

He likes to use a hammer, as well as his father. We can find that there is a deer head relief on the hammer. It seems that there is no obstacle to his identification with Baratheon.

In the eighth season of the battle between humans and ghosts, Gendry swung the dragon crystal hammer in the show. If there is no bullhead helmet in the first season, his nickname may not be "Big Bull" but "Sledgehammer".
