The Best Comedies of 2023 (So Far)

What’s better than a laugh? Like, a really good laugh. You know, the type of laugh that makes you double over with joy. Or, better yet, one that induces a silent wheeze that makes you start laughing all over again. A good laugh can cure just about anything, and if 2023 is as chaotic as 2022 was—it's certainly getting there!—we’re going to need all the giggles we can get.

Thankfully, Hollywood knew what we were thinking and planned accordingly. So far, this year brought a bunch of new comedies that got us through the winter. We saw the return of Tom Hanks, Jennifer Lawrence, Adam Sandler, Woody Harrelson, and even LeBron James as they starred in their own hilarious films. Hell, that's not even counting Cocaine Bear. Below, we’ve rounded up our best—and most-anticipated—comedies of 2023. Check it out, and prepare to laugh until your cheeks hurt.

No Hard Feelings

Jennifer Lawrence’s new comedy, No Hard Feelings, is a riot from start to finish. In the film, she stars as Maddie, a woman who’s one bill away from losing her childhood home. Her luck shifts when a wealthy couple posts an ad looking for someone to date their 19-year-old son. With some encouragement from her friends, Maddy applies for the position, but she quickly learns that the job requires more than she bargained for.

Murder Mystery 2

This hilarious sequel follows the next chapter of Nick (Adam Sandler) and Audrey (Jennifer Anniston) Spitz's lives. After becoming defacto investigators in Murder Mystery, the Spitz duo opens their own detective agency. After their friend is abducted, their sleuthing skills are (once again!) put to the test.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek team up for a laugh-out-loud romance in Magic Mike’s Last Dance. The film follows a struggling Mike Lane (Tatum), who is penniless after losing a major business deal. Then he meets Maxandra (Hayek), a wealthy socialite, who promises to get his life back on track. Together, they travel to London to open a new strip club, which Maxandra promises will earn a huge profit. But in order to pull it off, Mike has to find and train a new league of performers.

80 For Brady

Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, Sally Field, and Lily Tomlin all star in 80 For Brady. This heartwarming comedy follows four friends who will do anything to see their favorite football star, Tom Brady, play in the 2017 Super Bowl. Prepare to laugh from start to finish.

Maybe I Do

Maybe I Do is a modern-day romcom—and by that, I mean it follows a young couple questioning if they should get married (typical!) who seek advice from their parents who are secretly sleeping with eachother (not so typical!). Come for the drama, stay for the ensemble cast that includes Emma Roberts, Richard Gere, Dianne Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and William H. Macy.

We Have A Ghost

A teen boy named Kevin becomes an internet celebrity after he captures footage of a ghost in his new home. It’s all fun and games until he tries to figure out how the ghost died—and, of course, becomes the CIA’s next target. Cue suburban chase scenes and ghost-hiding hijinks!

House Party

Time goes on, people, but house parties are forever. In this remake of the 1990 cult classic, we meet two out-of-work house cleaners/longtime best friends who are short on cash and need of a quick fix. Naturally, they decide to throw a party at their former client's house. Guess whose residence it is? LeBron James.

A Man Called Otto

Tom Hanks plays a perpetually pissed off neighbor in A Man Called Otto. After his wife dies, poor grumpy Otto falls into despair. But when a boisterous family moves in next door, he begins an unlikely friendship with his neighbors—who teach him how to love life again. Tom Hanks warmth and fuzziness ensues.

You People

Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy, Lauren London, and Nia Long star in this modern Meet The Parents-style comedy. When a new couple introduces their parents to each other, their different cultures, lifestyles, and generational differences come to a head. But everyone has to learn to get along in order for their relationships to survive. Plus: we're happy to see Jonah Hill back in comedy mode.

Shotgun Wedding

Shotgun Wedding follows Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel), an engaged couple traveling to a tropical island for their destination wedding. Sounds fun, right? Nope. A group of gangsters disrupts their big day, and the couple embarks on the journey of a lifetime to save their families—and their marriage.
