Julia Roberts

Biography

“I was fortunate to work a lot, and I worked hard, and I was very devoted to that, and then I earned this jewel box of a life that I felt completely entitled to.” She studied journalism but when her brother, Eric Roberts, achieved some success in Hollywood, she decided to try acting. Her first break came in 1988 when she appeared in two youth-oriented movies Mystic Pizza (1988) and Satisfaction (1988). The movies introduced her to a new audience who instantly fell in love with her. Julia's first big success was in the signature movie Pretty Woman (1990) by Garry Marshall, for which Julia got an Oscar nomination, and also won the People's Choice award for Favorite Actress. Even though Julia would spend the next few years either starring in serious movies, or playing fantasy roles like Tinkerbell in “Hook” (1991) directed by Steven Spielberg, the movie audiences would always love Julia best in romantic comedies. With films such as “My Best Friend's Wedding” (1997) by P.J. Hogan or “Notting Hill” (1999) by Roger Michell, Julia became one of the romantic comedies queens till the present. Julia has also become involved with UNICEF charities and has made visits to many different countries, including Haiti and India, in order to promote goodwill. Julia Robert remains one of the most popular and sought-after talents in Hollywood.

WHEN HOLLY MET VIVIAN.

SCENE ONE Holly walks quickly as the rain slicks the pavement outside, where a line of town cars glisten beneath the low hum of awnings strung with tiny gold lights. Inside, the conversation is posh and velvet-thick, with marble floors reflecting the shimmer of chandeliers, a fireplace murmuring against walls dressed in original Basquiats and Hirsts. Beyond the arched windows, Manhattan blurs behi

The New GoldDigger Standard And The Many Faces Of Ani (2024)

'Would You Want To Be Exclusive With Me?' 'Fifteen. Cash. Upfront.' Wait. I think Ani (Mikey Madison ) is the new gold standard for movie gold diggers. She is not like the forever wishing and dreaming Holly Golightly, as played by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Also, you can quickly set aside Vivian Ward played by Julia Roberts in Pretty woman (1990) .She was great but that world does n

Why erotic thrillers have all but gone extinct (and could Babygirl change that?)

The recent hype around Babygirl has once again called to mind the golden age of the erotic thriller genre. Erotic thrillers used to be a big deal—especially in the 1990s. Slightly elderly moviegoers might recall the heyday of films like Sleeping with the Enemy, Basic Instinct, Malice, and Color of Night: eye-catching, steamy posters that enticed viewers’ desires, emblazoned with the names of major

What’s With the Celebrity + Normie Romance Trend?

Am I the only one who’s noticed this? The Idea of You, Marry Me, A Family Affair… Celebrities are great and all, don’t get me wrong - they’re basically manufactured to be appealing - but this is starting to feel a little excessive. I never noticed this as a “genre” until this year, and now even a movie from 2022 is trending on Netflix! I refuse to believe it’s a coincidence. Something bigger must

'Anora': Polaroid-like 'Pretty Woman'

Do you remember the classic romantic film "Pretty Woman" from 1990? It's about a billionaire businessman, played by Richard Gere falling in love with and marrying a prostitute from the red-light district (played by Julia Roberts). It's an affectionate but entirely improbable fairy tale. Poster of "Pretty Woman" Over 30 years have passed, and the story plot of what was once considered a classic is

The Idea of You: Even Anne Hathaway Can't Save It

Even before the release of the movie “The Idea of You,” I have been tuning in to updates about it to a fault. Behind-the-scenes photos, posters, and trailers... social media kept pushing more and more relevant content my way as I eagerly scrolled through all of them and was completely lit up. Can you imagine a 40-odd-year-old single mom going out with a 25-year-old boy (yes, boy), who happens to b

Anyone But You Is A Box Office Hit, But Why?

How did Anyone But You manage to become an unexpected boxoffice success while being allowed to embrace sensuality? I guess the enduring appeal of the classic Hollywood romantic comedy still works. The triumph of Anyone But You represents a flicker of revival for the unassuming romantic comedy, a genre that, for the majority of the past decade, has primarily found its place on streaming platforms.
