Gothic narrative is an art, and its complexity can often be difficult to nail down, which is why I feel gothic films are less frequent than more traditional styles of Horror media. Gothica also exists on a spectrum, from gothic romance (Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, Rebecca) to gothic horror (Dracula, Frankenstein). Sometimes gothic horror and romance intersect so as to be nearly indistinguishable from each other, as in the works of Edgar Allan Poe. These films encapsulate the gothic genre.
