Paula Pardillos's review about The Shape of Water(2017)

It's like an adult fairytale, with dark humor, political allegory, and all these meticulous details, plus some romantic moments. But, honestly, it didn't really grab me. I guess that's the thing with fairytales—sometimes you feel like they contain everything, and other times, you just think, “This story has been told a thousand times before.”

This is such a whimsical and incredibly romantic story, portraying a world where all the misfits band together to combat the darkness. It's really, really hard not to be moved. The Amphibian Man is a mysterious creature that could symbolize other people in the film, such as the mute woman. While it's understandable that the characters may be somewhat stereotypical, the love story is just so beautiful, making me tear up.
