Let‘s be real: Monthy Python and the Holy Grail set the stone of how to do slapstick comedies and somewhat parodies, without lossing his essence. It was released in 1975 by the former legendary comedy group Monty Phyton, this film is set during the medieval times and it‘s a mockery to one of those famous films set in the middle age.

The film became a cult classic among everyone and it was classified by NATIONAL BOARD OF FILMS - One of the best film comedies of all time. But the movie is losing his power in recent years, often forgettable among the cinephiles and even in film studies. This film is a satire, with meta humor and has a really good narrative above all the dumb jokes they offer. Even the comedy group did a good amount of money in performances, to get this film green lighted-it was hard. And it shows.
Holy Grail used the little budget to enhace the purpose of his narrative. They filmed in the freezing locations of Scotland, using cheap medieval customes and--even they didn‘t have the money to finance horses and they used clapped coconuts together and pretended to be a horse, and that worked….
The humor could be weird for certain people, its not for everyone. It‘s one of those movies that they killed the narrator in the second act… without a reason and it‘s hilarious on how they achieved such endevaour. A movie such ahead of his time, the jokes are funny enough, there‘s a good amount of quotes. And often, tries to break the fourth wall, because it‘s so self aware, that probably the filmmakers were thinking to escape from this world.
Black Knight it‘s one of the memorable characters of the film and Tim The Enchanter, who throws fireballs without any reason.. and that‘s funny to watch. Each scene is structured as one separate sketch, but compiled together to form a movie. In the 70s, Hollywood was trying to do romantic comedies and that era did worked on how original they told a story, and UK said “It‘s our turn too“.
Probably, you‘re thinking, should Monty Python deserves a comeback? Like The Naked Gun doing a sequel after all this years, the spoof movies has dissapear of the radar, but they still stand in the minds of people who still remembered this great films. Monty Python couldn‘t work without his original comedy group, they were the true heart of the movie and the ones that break the boundary of doing this kind of films. But, the movie will be forever be an example of doing a narrative so chaotic, so funny and how they can still be used as prime examples of fine cinema.
But remember, bring your coconuts, watch out for the killer rabbits, because Monty Python and the Holy Grail is still the king of comedy films. Thank you, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam for this incredible comedy film.
