An In-depth Analysis of the Costumes of Melisandre in “Game of Thrones”

Melisandre, a red priestess of R'hllor and a shadow binder from Asshai, has a mysterious choker that never leaves her body. And the ruby in the middle hides the secret of her youth.

Melisandre changed her choker once. The first one was more complicated (in the middle/right picture). The logos of the King of Light "Blazing Red Heart" are on the shoulder and the pendant.

After taking off the choker, Melisandre instantly withered into a 400-year-old Grandma Mei. Some sharp-eyed fans discovered that there was a bug in the play. Melisandre rubbed her neck in the bath before, and her skin was still radiant...

The face of the old lady is the face of the actor herself after 6 hours of makeup, and the sagging body is from an 80-year-old stand-in. After CG synthesis, it is what we see.

Melisandre's magic choker is composed of a circle of elongated hexagons. The shape is the unified identity of Asshai magic practitioners in GoT.

Whether a passer-by priestess (left) preaching on the street or a senior priestess Kinvara (middle) came to Meereen to seek refuge with Dragon Mother, they all have various elongated hexagons on their necks and bodies.

In the second season, a witch covered with hexagons appeared, who told Jorah Mormont to protect the dragon mother. Because Asshai people wear masks daily, the style is presumed to be the local look.

The mask design coincides with McQueen again.

We called Melisandre "The Red Robe Girl". Did she have no other clothes except the red robe...?

Not really.

Melisandre did have 3 solid-color red robes. As we can see, the left has a large round neck, and the middle and the right are both in the King’s Landing style. The two patterns are slightly different.

And there are three red and black patterned robes.

Left: Red and black wood grain;
Middle: Regular hexagonal three-dimensional embossing;
Right: Red and black hexagonal printing.

Wearing the right one she successfully seduced Stannis and gave birth to Voldemort (a little-known meme)

In addition to the well-known red robe, Melisandre had a multi-functional red cloak, which was used as a headscarf, or a scarf. It was the most practical and fashionable item in GoT.

Total Melisandre looks are 7.
(I didn't expect her to change so many clothes...)
