According to an official announcement by James Gunn himself, the new Superman and Lois Lane for the DC Universe (DCU) have been confirmed! David Corenswet will portray Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane. These two actors have been highly anticipated since the casting stage, and they have indeed secured the roles.
At 29 years old, David Corenswet perfectly fits the casting requirements previously revealed by Gunn. He has appeared in films and TV shows such as Pearl (2022), Instinct Season 1 (2018), House of Cards Season 6 (2018), Affairs of State (2018), Hollywood (2020), and We Own This City (2022), among others.
Moreover, Corenswet's handsome appearance aligns with Gunn's description of a charismatic and sunny boy-next-door. Fans are generally satisfied with the casting choice for the new Superman.
Furthermore, based on concept art, David Corenswet's demeanor bears some resemblance to both Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill, the previous actors who portrayed Superman.
As for the leading lady Lois Lane, she will be portrayed by 32-year-old Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning actress Rachel Brosnahan. Her previous works include The Unborn (2009), House of Cards Seasons 1 and 2, Manhattan Season 1, and notably, her starring role as Miriam 'Midge' Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-2023), for which she received Golden Globe and Emmy Awards for Best Actress.
Although Rachel is slightly older than David, it is said that both actors performed exceptionally well during the audition process, which greatly satisfied James Gunn.
According to insiders, Gunn praised the exceptional chemistry and perfect fit between the actors and their respective roles, emphasizing that they will be integral to the future Superman: Legacy movie and the DCU.
Interestingly, after the announcements of Corenswet and Brosnahan, the hashtag #FireJamesGunn appeared on the Twitter trending topics, indicating that while fans welcome the new Superman and Lois Lane actors, they also have a strong nostalgia for Henry Cavill and Brandon Routh.
