'Pacific Rim' | Biological Characteristics of Kaiju

I. Venomous Organisms

Kaiju are venomous amphibious creatures. Their bodies contain large amounts of amino chemicals, a toxin fatal to humans. Upon arrival on Earth, Kaiju discharges significant amounts of toxins and radiation into the water, contaminating the environment constantly.

In addition to bodily toxins and radiation, Kaiju blood is also a deadly weapon. Their blood, known as Kaiju Blue, is a blue liquid. Upon an individual's death, its body decomposes, and its blood evaporates into the atmosphere, combining with oxygen molecules to form nitrogen dioxide, posing significant environmental hazards. Inhalation of this gas can lead to coughing, pulmonary edema, and respiratory diseases, rendering the atmosphere in Kaiju death zones uninhabitable. Moreover, Kaiju blood is highly corrosive, akin to a strong acid, making it challenging for human scientists to collect samples and conduct experiments.

The exhaled gas is radioactive, and even after death, it decomposes and pollutes. The only viable method is to beat them to internal injury and death. The weapons equipped on Jaegers are targeted, such as burning or freezing Kaiju wounds to prevent the decomposition and diffusion of Kaiju toxins.

II. Genetic Makeup

As determined by cellular dialysis, Kaiju are silicon-based life forms comprising silicates and amino compounds. In other words, while the primary unit maintaining human life is amino acids, the basic unit maintaining Kaiju life consists of silicon atoms, amino acids from bodily fluids, and an unknown amino acid unseen on Earth. This crystal structure defies naming and baffles researchers about how it coexists with other compounds.

III. Hive Mind

Kaiju are clones, with all Kaiju DNA originating from the precursor. They possess a hive mind, a collective consciousness. Whether the Precursors issue their invasion directives or whether they are self-determined remains uncertain. However, they communicate and strategize during operations, posing significant challenges to human Jaeger pilots. Each Kaiju has two brains: one controlling its actions and the other responsible for sensory perception.

IV. Biological Traits

Kaiju comes in various forms, ranging from crabs to gorillas to Godzillas. Classifying their biological traits, including body structure, diet, and metabolic systems, is challenging. However, one thing is sure: Kaiju are weapons whose sole purpose is human extinction. Like a bullet, their lifespan spans from production to hitting the target; once humanity is eradicated, so are the Kaiju.

(The "Pacific Rim" production team designed 41 Kaiju, with only nine appearing in the film.)
