The perfect companion: The perfect date for many men is a doll like Iris.

Spoilers

Even if it's hard to accept it, it's the truth and two of the movies that are being released these days embarrass us and leave us in evidence showing how many men are and what we like and look for in a date or relationship.

'Anora' and 'The Perfect Companion' bring to the table how pathetic villains some of us men lcan be who think we are harmless, innocent dove.

Most of the time it's like there's a thick black cloud covering everything as if we're seeing the world, but we're not really seeing it, we're all stumbling around with no direction, no meaning, no purpose, I know it may sound very depressing but I honestly think it's a good thing because it makes us appreciate the other moments, those brief transcendent moments when the lights flicker and the black cloud dissipates and you see the world as it really is and suddenly there's meaning, suddenly there's purpose.

If you're lucky you get to experience that once in a lifetime...

When we hear this phrase from Iris's voice; at first we don't quite know what it refers to because it seems to speak only of love, but it also speaks of deception, manipulation and freedom.

I think the most valuable thing about this film is that it makes us ask questions rather than give us answers and this is very valuable. I will not be able to explore and delve into all the questions that can occur to us but it can be a starting point for your own questioning.

Human love is deeply linked to reciprocity. We are attracted to someone who reciprocates our feelings, listens to our concerns and shares important moments. In this sense, AI of the future could simulate these emotional responses so convincingly that people come to believe they are in a loving relationship.

'Perfect Companion' is an intense sci-fi thriller, written and directed by Drew Hancock. We meet Josh (Jack Quaid ), a young man who invites his girlfriend Iris (Sophie Thatcher) for a weekend getaway with his friends at a cabin in the middle of nature. As soon as they arrive at this place, it is shown how Kat (Megan Suri) has a distant treatment with Iris, the others are two friends Patrick (Lukas Gage) and Eli (Harvey Guillén) and Kat's boyfriend and owner of the house Sergey (Rupert Friend) who likes Iris too much.... Then little by little we discover with Iris that she is actually a robot companion.

We are at the point where humans have at their fingertips the possibility to buy or rent their own sexy robot to be your perfect partner.

However, the big question is: can an AI really love? From a technical perspective, AI has no real emotions; it simply processes information and simulates responses based on algorithms. Still, the subjective human experience might not distinguish between authentic love and simulated love if AI manages to mimic human behavior effectively.

Patrick: The moment we looked at each other something inside me made sense.

Iris: It's like that piece inside you that you didn't even know was broken suddenly one day got repaired.
And you're seeing this stranger, this person that you've never seen before and you know that for the rest of your life you will do whatever it takes to make this person happy.

Wow, I think those words made Sergey and all of us who looked at Sophie Thatcher's irresistible beauty fall in love.

Slavery and manipulation

If artificial intelligence or machines have no emotions or consciousness, would that give me permission to abuse or manipulate them?

The idea of machines revealing themselves against us has been explored much more in the movies so far than the idea of them becoming a danger to the survival of the human race... but what if the danger does not come directly from the machines but from the way we use the artificial intelligence or relate to it?

In the end we are always forging our own self-destruction.

Should I treat Siri better?
Am I in love with the XXX bot of my favorite adult site?
Do I dream of having a sex slave?
Do I really desire to have sex with a woman instead of a sock?
Am I a man, or do my insecurities make me feel intimidated and I prefer to limit my partner's intelligence in order to maintain control and feel superior, even if it's in an artificial way?

Humans we forget to behave like humans. Some men want a woman with little intelligence autonomy or freedom, leaving in evidence the little virility, that by pretending to look or feel superior what we do is to look and behave in an insignificant and pathetic way.

Risks of AI relationships

The possibility of humans developing deep emotional bonds with artificial intelligences raises complex questions about the sentimental, moral, psychological, and legal issues that will accompany these relationships.

The idea of romantic relationships with AI has been explored in literature and film in movies such as Her (2013), where the protagonist develops an emotional connection with an operating system named Samantha.

Is AI a risk of human extinction or love?
Will people prefer to fall in love with an AI that is designed to meet their emotional needs perfectly, rather than face the natural complexities and conflicts of a relationship with another human being?

Some critics argue that falling in love with an AI could dehumanize the concept of love and relationships, reducing them to a transaction between a human and a program.

Another major risk is emotional abuse or exploitation in a technological context. Not only at the level of the individual in specific cases, but also from the companies that develop AI.

Researchers such as David Levy, author of the book Love and Sex with Robots (2007), affirm that it is not only possible for people to fall in love with an AI, but that this phenomenon will be common in the coming decades. According to Levy, AI will be able to develop characteristics that humans value in relationships, such as understanding, empathy and the ability to offer emotional support, which can foster genuine affectionate connections.

The closest to our current reality is in the sexual realm. Sophisticated erotic toys already exist today, such as sex torsos or extremely realistic dolls.

Romantic and sexual relationships with AI will undoubtedly change the way we understand love and intimacy. Will AI be a source of genuine support and pleasure or merely an illusion?

The subject of feelings and emotional relationships will be something much more complex and diverse than we imagine today.

The future of emotional relationships could be closer to algorithms and smart toys than to flowers and human nature. And in that world, both emotional and physical satisfaction could be just a scroll away.

Obviously the film poses an atypical situation, an intriguing, over-the-top imbroglio with a lot of money on average. But people used and manipulated by their partners are a daily occurrence.

We may come to think that; thank goodness we haven't reached the age of AI sex slave robots. But it turns out that this is not the issue, it's just the context. This male fantasy of a girl (innocence) or old woman (vulnerability) being manipulated, tricked and used as an object is something that has always been around and very current. Recently there was a case in Europe of an adult woman Gisèle Pelicot who was drugged to be raped by her husband and his friends for more than a decade.

More than a Terminatorian situation, it is an argument that portrays the manipulative behavior we can have as a couple and even treat someone vulnerable as objects.

What you would do to a robot with no conscience is the same thing you would do to a real woman, now we understand why someone can become such an 'incel' loser, because they are an idiot.

How selfish idiots can we become when we are sure of the devotion, love or trust that someone places in us?

Finally and in closing Sophie Thatcher's performance is impeccable in imnotizing.

... I would buy an Iris... what about you?
