Hurry Up Tomorrow is the latest movie by Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd and it‘s directed by Trey Edward Shults and it follows the story of a musician in the verge of collapse that is dragged into an odyssey when he starts to know a new woman
Seriously, what was the point of this movie?

Hurry Up Tomorrow was named after his newest album and this is like a companion piece of sorts and I‘m thankful about the visual aspect of the movie, how psychodelic it is, how well the camera movements are made and how Abel‘s acting has gotten a bit better since The Idol.
The script was written by Abel and Trey and it didn‘t make it any sense. I needed to read the wikipedia plot description after the movie ended. I tried so hard to connect with any of the characters, didn‘t feel like I need to, there‘s no plot to follow and there‘s so much situations that happens during the running time, that you could see it was to make an artsy film, but it was like pretentious student film with budget.
The visuals are what they keep you invested, but behind all of that, the film is empty. Doesn‘t offer nothing, doesn‘t say anything, other if you‘re The Weeknd fan, you will catch some of the easter eggs and only fans can catch, as I am not a entirely devoted fan, I didn‘t see the point to show this film to normal audiences.

The performances in the film are decent enough, Jenna Ortega delivers a commited performance of a tragic character that didn‘t explain her motivations or anything really, she‘s just crazy. Barry Keoghan is there, he offers what he can do with the script, and finally, Abel‘s acting is getting better but it‘s not enough to carry the whole movie as the lead. He is nothing compared to Jenna‘s.
The music was part of the newest songs from his album, and there‘s a score, but didn‘t do his job fully, it felt more like a longer commercial for his new work, instead of a film trying to say something. It‘s clear that Abel likes films that takes you into a cinematic experience, but every movie that has this style, it‘s filled with substance and this film doesn‘t do much in terms of that.

Even there‘s a sequence of Jenna dancing to Blinding Lights that could come up as bad storytelling, there‘s no point, there‘s no nothing to get out of this experience.
At the end of the day, Hurry Up Tomorrow tried to be an artsy film, but it ends to be a pretentious and empty film that we will forget over a day.
