What could be better than a list of the greatest 1,000 films of all time? A list of the top 5,000 films of all time. Its value, obviously, will be rather dependent on how you use lists. There are many statistically-minded lists available. Generally, they are either based on averages or cumulative presence in lists. This list attempts to bring the two together, with a composite score that uses Letterboxd, IMDb, and Metacritic scores as well as a quantification of the movies' presence on several lists (enumerated below). As anyone who has more than a passing interest in movies can see, the three main questions in movies are, in reverse order: What do you hate? What are your favorites? and What do you recommend? 2023 UPDATE: Another apology is due from myself to this community as I have let this sit idle for far too long (again). I'm back on Letterboxd now and have updated this list for 2023. As I mentioned in 2020, the growth of this site required me raise the minimum view count from 2k to 4k. I think we need to bump that again, so I'm now setting a minimum view count of 15k for feature films to be eligible to make this list in order to prevent it from becoming too bloated.
