As the ruler of the kingdom and the wealthiest house in Westeros, the dressing style of House Lannister always reveals the atmosphere of money and power.
Their family crest is a lion, a king in the animal kingdom. Men's clothing on important occasions is mainly decorated with lion head buckles. The three pictures below are wedding looks.
The costumes in the show are designed in units of families or regions. The men's clothing of House Lannister is usually in the following two styles.
Charles Dance, who played Tywin, is 1.9 meters tall, perfectly showing the majesty and demeanor of the head of House Lannister.
There are countless armor looks in the show, but only Tywin wears the strength of a man. For showing the demeanor of the king, the red ribbon is indispensable. Many characters have worn like this (it will appear later), but none is worth comparing to Tywin.
The inner armor of House Lannister is knee-length leather, while most of the other families are civilian.
The piece of Tywin below is plain at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it is printed with light golden leaf patterns.
The sleeves of the leather jacket can be removed for convenience when Tywin is in private. On formal occasions, he will tie the leather sleeves.
Tywin's daily clothes are all knee-length slim jackets, showing the decency and demeanor of a great nobleman. Although it is not the kind of fancy we can see at a glance, the exquisite details show his extraordinary status.
The leather jacket was mentioned in the women's clothing analysis. Cersei's enthroned style intentionally imitated Tywin, choosing the fabric worn by this father. In addition to James, the other two unrecognized children of Tywin have spent most of their lives longing for their father's affirmation.
The two leather jackets with lapels are full of style, especially the one at Tyrion’s wedding. The golden hand-painted lion on the collar is the most exquisite and delicate one in the show (although Cersei has all kinds of lion decorations, much of the embroidery is ugly).
Let's come to the last journey of his life. Although he died in embarrassment, the funeral was quite luxurious. We can see the shroud with twin Lions embroidery pattern. All these things may be arranged by Cersei.
Although his father and sister spurned Tyrion since he was a child, it did not make a dent in Tyrion's sense of family identity. He still enjoyed his identity as a Lannister freely.
In the first two seasons, Tyrion basically wore red, sometimes with some golden decorations, very Lannister. The red and gold colors are the color scheme of the House Lannister crest.
And each piece is exquisitely crafted, such as jacquard, embroidery, leather carving... In short, they are crafts that only rich nobles can afford.

During the Battle of the Blackwater River, Tyrion was in the prime of his life. He was the Hand of the King, and a series of hand reliefs were fixed on his Lannister armor accordingly (right). On the left of the picture is the normal armor worn before.
He wanted to use his heroic contributions in the battle to fight for what he deserved, the Casterly Rock City, (Tyrion is Tywin's legal heir, and James is the Kingsguard so he has no right to inherit), but he suffered a devastating humiliation.
It was Tyrion's first turning point. He never took the initiative to wear red again, and almost all black after that as if in mourning (of course, the fabric and craftsmanship of the clothes are still excellent), leaving only a trace of Lannister red on the scarf. There is also a scar left on the face from the battle.
The only red look during this period was at his wedding with Sansa, but it was forced (right). Different from the dark red Tyrion wore before, the wedding dress was too bright red. As we can see, the arranged marriage was completely a will of Tyrion.
Joffrey died suddenly and was wronged, which was the second turning point of Tyrion.
If last time he could only be considered disappointed to his father, this time he was completely disheartened. We could find that he didn't wear the red scarf in the courtroom, the last remaining Lannister symbol on his body.

After Tyrion joined the team of dragons mother in Meereen, his clothes are much more casual. The color is mainly yellow-green. We can see the loose sleeves of the blouse, and the heavy leather skirt no longer appears.
When he was stationed on Dragonstone to counterattack Westeros, his costume went black with the entire cast. Although it is pitch black, there are still many patterns of fabrics. Tyrion never treated himself badly. By the way, the King's hand brooch of Tyrion is silver.
In the first scene of the first episode of the first season, Tyrion has long, straight light blonde hair, which is consistent with the description in the novel. Then the hair became curly, darker, and almost brown by the end. It is interpreted by fans as House Lannister in Tyrion's heart gradually disappearing.
The two screenwriters mentioned that they planned to follow the original work at the beginning, but they didn't insist on it when they found it didn't look good.

If you analyze Jaime's costume as the usual routine of Tyrion, you will be in vain. James, as the character changed the most in the series, is definitely an anti-routine because he did not have any clothes of his own.
Jaime has worn 4 armor. In the beginning, he was the Kingsguard, also known as the White Robe because their armor was covered in white glaze.
However, for the sake of the picture, the TV series only kept the white cloak (it's a bit dark in the picture) and a small area of white decoration. Beneath his armor was a dirty beige leather jacket with a lapel, the same style Tywin had worn.
The emblem of the Kingsguard is a crown, carved into the breastplate. After Joffrey came to power, he probably felt that the armor of the Kingsguard was not domineering enough during the period of Robert, so he used antlers and three swords to spell out a new aggressive crown.
At the time shown in the picture above, Jaime came back without his right hand and pride. Cersei got someone to make a golden prosthetic hand to cover his stump. She did it not out of love and pity but hated ugly things.

After returning home, Jaime got a Valyrian steel sword from Tywin, one of the two swords that Ned "ice" melted into. There are three lion heads on the hilt and a square ruby inlaid in the middle, which is a clear Lannister style.
Jaime gave it to Brienne Latter, asking her to use the sword to guard the daughter of House Stark.
In some way, it reflected Jaime' admiration for Brienne who awakened the chivalry spirit that had always been in him. And he gave away the Valyrian steel sword that so many people dreamt of, which also shows that Jaime did not care much about valuable items.
The Naming right was left to Brienne, who named the sword "Oath keeper".
However, because the sword was so beautiful, when Brienne met Arya and wanted to take her away, the Hound suspected that she was a Lannister.
James' third armor is from House Lannister. The relief of the lion is quite amazing.
The overall armor in the show pays more attention to aesthetics, and the protective function is relatively insufficient, mainly due to the lack of parts. As we can see in this set, the arms, legs, neck, and underarms are all unprotected. With this level of defense, it is not enough to protect him in a battle.
Lannister armor is another European-Japanese hybrid design. Based on Japanese samurai armor, the decorative elements are borrowed from European Renaissance armor.
It paired with two black leather jackets are common style for Lannister men. The leather texture is high-grade, but there is no decoration beyond functionality.

In the battle between humans and ghosts, they took the throat guards and shoulder armor of the northern soldiers and put them on.
But the 4 armors above are more or fewer uniforms, and the only personal suit of James in the play is a, yes, only a brown leather jacket.
Yes, He has worn it for four seasons.
He wore this one when he went to Dorne to rescue Myrcella and he wore the same one to go to the North to support Stark. And he finally wore this one to go to hell with Cersei.
People in House Lannister generally love gorgeousness. Gorgeousness is not only a taste but also a symbol of status and power.
To Tywin or Tyrion, including Joffrey and Lancel who we will mention later, gorgeous clothes are an inseparable part of their identity, whether it is their deliberate pursuit or just unconscious habit.
And these fancy things did not mean anything to Jaime. Even when he had a choice, it never bothered him. He always had an idealistic chivalry deep in his heart. About how to interpret James' inner world from his costumes, I will mention more information in the chapter on Brienne later.
